Bali Tiger Hideaway has a variety of accommodation to choose from, all of which are around a similar price. There are timber rooms, woven bamboo stilted huts and safari-style canvas suites. The location is wonderfully secluded, right at the far western end of Yeh Sumbul beach, between paddies and cow pastures.

What's the appeal?

Bali Tiger Hideaway offers affordable quirky accommodation in a peaceful setting with incredible views along the wild Yeh Sumbul beach. The little dining room only serves breakfast but there is a range of restaurant options within easy reach along the beachfront (including the fantastic Holy Tree café). For beginner surfers the waves out front are relatively gentle and break onto sand (unlike the surf point at Medewi, which is rocky).

Rooms

There are 9 rooms here: timber, bamboo and canvas, and all have fans only (no aircon). The property enjoys open sea breezes so this is never likely to present a problem. The two Java-made canvas suites at the front of the property offer lovely outlooks across the pool onto the wonderfully wild beach. The four bamboo huts behind are a little more secluded and the three timber rooms are farther back on the property. All rooms have private bathrooms with covered sink areas and open-air hot-water showers.

Facilities

The small pool at the front of the property is a real bonus and there’s even a “lookout tower” above the bar from which to enjoy views along the beach and to check out the surf. (At the time of our last visit, however, the steps up to the tower were extremely rickety). The little dining room only serves breakfast and drinks and – in an effort to cut down on plastics – free filtered drinking water is available to guests. The property offers surfboard and motorbike rentals and can arrange transport and shuttles to Medewi. There’s also a roofed platform that can serve as a yoga shala. Breakfast is included in the price: coffee or tea and a choice of omelette, pancake, nasi goreng or mie goreng.

Location

Next to a river at the wild western edge of Yeh Sumbul beach, Bali Tiger Hideaway is one of the most secluded resorts in the area. A 3km stroll along the wide, empty beach will take you to the great clifftop sea temple of Rambut Siwi (there are steps leading from the beach up to the temple but take a sarong if you wish to enter the temple). A 1.5km walk eastwards will take you to Medewi, where there is a range of bars and eateries. If you’re happy to walk, you could easily stay here without any transport at all.
