Although the rooms at Gubug are fairly simple, it's the swimming pool that makes this place really special. With sun loungers and a rim-flow pool on the edge of a hill as well as views across the ocean, this place feels more like a luxury hotel than a budget lodging – and it's a super-relaxing place to stay.

What's the appeal?

 

Just a short walk up the hill from the beach, Gubug Balian Beach Bungalow offers excellent accommodation for surfers and families who're wanting to spend time in this seaside town. It's also within walking distance of  many restaurants, bars and warungs. Accommodation here is simple but very well maintained, and along with the pool, this hotel is excellent value for money. Travellers wanting to join yoga classes can do so at Pondok Pitaya, which is about a minute's walk away.

Rooms

 

Gubug Balian Beach Bungalow has double and triple rooms. They're very dark inside, with exposed brick walls and dark floor tiles, but the rooms do have large windows to let in as much natural light as possible. All rooms are air conditioned, have their own simple bathrooms and a generous veranda or balcony. They also have a wardrobe unit and a TV.

Facilities

 

The swimming pool is the main drawcard here, and it's surrounded by sun loungers and umbrellas for shade. A hearty breakfast is included in the price, and there is a laundry onsite.

Gubug Balian Beach Bungalow is a short walk up the hill from Balian Beach. It has fantastic views over the ocean, and is within walking distance of many bars, restaurants and warungs.
