Mimpi Resort Menjangan was built on the sacred land that was once exclusively the bathing area of local royalty. Although it is known as one of Bali’s finest dive resorts, this is also a wonderful place to sit back and soak up the sense of peace that is unique to many of Bali’s secluded sacred places.

What's the appeal?

 

Mimpi means "dream" in Indonesian and this luxurious resort on Bali’s remote north-western coast has been the setting for many a dream holiday. Set on a gently sloping inlet where hot thermal springs bubble into natural pools this was the spot where Balinese kings came to relax and recuperate. Despite the luxuriousness of the resort, there remains a wild feeling to this spot, surrounded as it is by mangrove forests and within sight of four of Java’s towering volcanoes. Yet the wilderness is tamed by wonderfully spacious and attractively designed rooms and villas.

Conscious travel & eco efforts

 

This family-owned resort operates on the principles of the "Four Rs" – recycle, reduce, reuse and rethink – and the owners have committed to taking environmental impact into consideration when it comes to running the property. Over the past 20 years the dive-focussed resort has been working with nearby fishing communities to abandon blast and cyanide fishing and to establish more sustainable practises. They also initiated a seaweed-farming practise, to help promote a healthy marine environment.  The resort is invested in its surrounding community, from which three-quarters of its staff hails.

Rooms

 

The hotel's 30 Patio Rooms are the cheaper ones on offer and have a shared communal hot-pool, also fed by the supposedly recuperative Banyuwedang spring. Up a price bracket at the 18 private Courtyard Villas, which have gardens and their own private thermal plunge-pools, and then there are two truly palatial 155-square-metre Grand Courtyard Villas, which are wonderful for honeymooners and travellers who value privacy.

Facilities

 

The resort boasts a PADI Dive Centre and water-sports. If you’re in the mood to get active there’s a yoga shala, free bicycles and kayaks and no shortage of swimming pools (as well as the private thermal plunge-pools). Mimpi’s wonderfully luxurious spa offers a range of treatments in what they call a "water healing sanctuary".

Location

 

Set in sprawling tropical gardens on the shore of the secluded Banyuwedang Bay, Mimpi Resort Menjangan is within easy reach of West Bali National Park and the famous reefs of Menjangan Island. The resort offers private airport transfers and the 4-hour drive over the spectacular highlands of Bedugal to the north coast is an enjoyable part of the adventure…and an infinitely worthwhile sacrifice if you wish to access one of Bali’s most beautiful havens.
