What's the appeal?

 

At the award-winning Puri Ganesha homes there is an abundance of space, and privacy. The decor in each of the four houses is themed around iconic Bali pioneers such as artist Walter Spies and adventurer-trader Mads Lange. The homes are filled with character – both in spirit and design – and languid days spent on the ample day beds, beside the pools, around the dining tables are truly remarkable. The restaurant's menu has been very carefully considered by owner Diana von Cranach, the chef who pioneered the vegan movement in South East Asia and who has developed menus and recipes for some of the region's most respected high-end hotels.

Pet friendly

 

Puri Ganesha is a pet-friendly boutique hotel – but please do contact the ​team first to make sure your pet is welcome. "I draw the line at tarantulas," says the hotel's owner.

The houses

 

There are four spacious houses at Puri Ganesha, each one slightly different from the other. What they have in common is that they each have their own private pool, are all beach facing, and are all set in large gardens. The homes, which have deep shady verandahs, have natural alang-alang roofs, high ceilings and are lofty, cool spaces. Santai, dedicated to adventurer-trader Mads Lange – often called "the King of Bali" – is Puri Ganesha's honeymoon offering; Senyum, dedicated to Belgian artist Le Mayur, can sleep six people; Sepi, which celebrates Dutch artist WOJ Nieuwenkamp, can host four people in its two bedrooms; and Senang, devoted to German artist Walter Spies, can sleep six.

Facilities

 

Each private house at Puri Ganesha has its own pool, broad verandah with day beds and armchairs, and vast garden. Rooms are spacious and are all en suite; many of the rooms can be configured to have either a double or twin beds. At one end of the property is the colourful spa and, the heart of Puri Ganesha, the dining areas. Puri Ganesha has an extensive library.

Umbi Restaurant

 

Created by a lifelong foodie and pioneering vegan chef, Puri Ganesha's Umbi Restaurant is a celebration of fresh, healthy food. There is a focus on fish and vegetable dishes, and the set menus delight with layers of textures and flavours. Cooking classes are offered, as are culinary tours. Location

 

Puri Ganesha is located on the fringe of Pemuteran Bay. Its gardens stretch down onto the beach, and behind the village the land rises into hills. Puri Ganesha is a wonderful base for those who're wanting to live in luxury while they do some diving and snorkelling in the area, explore north-west Bali or nip across to Java.
