Sumberkima Hill is a collection of gorgeous villas – each one different from the other – that overlook Bali's northern coastline, the Bali Sea, and some even looking across to the volcanoes of Java. The views from up in this peaceful retreat are vast – up to 70km away in some places – and the villas have been designed to make the most of them, many with infinity pools set out in front. There is a range of accommodation offerings here: a room with a shared pool for those travelling on a budget, up to an extensive five-bedroom villa.

What's the appeal?

The villas – established with consideration to the environment and surrounding community – tend to be quite different from one another, so you can return time and again and have a different experience if you choose to stay in various villas – or perhaps you'll fall for one in particular. The views are stunning; the ambiance peaceful and, although the villas are located a drive away from the coastline, the property has all you need for a peaceful getaway: two restaurants, a spa and yoga studio (did we mention the views...?). There is a range of accommodation offerings here: from rooms that share a pool up to an extensive five-bedroom villa.

Conscious travel & eco efforts

The environment and Sumberkima community are at the very heart of this special property. The majority of the people who work here live nearby; Sumberkima is involved in various community initiatives and beach clean-ups, and home-grown fruit and vegetables are served at the property's two restaurants.  Sumberkima has established an NGO that is committed to working on reef restoration and reforestation projects.

Pet friendly

Most of the villas at Sumberkima Hill are pet friendly – but when you make your booking please be sure to include a request for your furry family to join you. A note from Sumberkima Hill: Please bear in mind that as all our villas are open, we do not want the dog to wander around by themself. We had numerous issues with dogs killing small chickens from our neighbouring villagers, or taking shoes that guests leave outside their villa.  You are responsible for the behaviour of your dog, also meaning any damage done to the villa or other people's property you need to pay. If the dog is well behaved it is welcome, however please keep above conditions in mind.

The villas

The villas at Sumberkima vary in style from an evocative old wooden house to extensive modern homes that are fronted with enormous windows, sliding doors and vast expanses of verandas. They range in size from one to five bedrooms; the majority of the villas have a kitchen and a private pool.

Facilities

There are two restaurants at Sumberkima Hill – Senja, which serves Indonesian food (and is a wonderful place for sunset cocktails) and Suma, which has "world food" on the changing menu. Prices here are reasonable and the views exceptional. Meals can be delivered to the villas; please note that if a villa has a kitchen, breakfast is not included in the rate. While the villas have private pools, there is also a communal infinity pool that has beautiful views across to Java. It's perfect for swimming laps (and for upping your Instagram game, if that's your thing). Sumberkima also has a spa, which has a variety of massage treatments and mani/pedis on the menu. Sumberkima Hill also offers a whole host of activities that'll have you exploring the area, diving into Balinese culture, and heading out on ocean and land-based adventures. Sumberkima has a free shuttle that runs in the area.

Yoga

The yoga shala at Sumberkima Hill has stunning views across the ocean. Yoga classes are held daily at 7.30am – the charge is Rp100,000 per class; please book the day before via WhatsApp on +62-812-8212-9211. Private classes can be arranged and rates vary according to how many people are in the class.

Location

Sumberkima Hill is located between Pemuteran and Menjangan – and, as its name suggests, the retreat is situated on the hills that stretch back from the coastline. If you'd like to be independent during your stay then having your own car or scooter will be a bonus, but the staff here can organise transport, too – Sumberkima Hill offers a free shuttle service in the area. Everything you need for a relaxing, rejuvenating stay is right here (restaurants, spa, pool).
