Things to do in Balian


a wonderfully wild and quiet beach break​ at Balian. Boards are available for rent near the beach, and you can take lessons here too.


classes are held daily in Balian – a wonderful antidote to long surf sessions, and a fantastic way to start and end your day in this lovely seaside village.. 


the exquisite rice terraces that stretch from Pantai Soka all the way back to the foot of Batukaru mountain. They're among the loveliest rice terraces in Bali.


with a view. Located right at the bottom of the hill at Balian, Sushi Surf is a chilled, breezy cafe that overlooks the waves and serves excellent sushi, smoothies and juices, healthy breakfast and a range of cocktails.


for a few days. Balian's a great spot to enjoy some down time, and to catch up on reading, indulge in massages, work on your tan....


in a pool while you watch the surf. Pondok Pitaya has a lovely beachfront swimming pool – non-guests are welcome to use it if they order a meal from the restaurant (which has an extensive menu).


the small Catholic Church in hillside Selabih. There's a pretty shrine to the Virgin Mary set in tended gardens, and the view from up here is stunning.


is about 25 minutes away from Balian, and a great place to spend a day – excellent surf, and plenty to do and see (as well as a special beachfront bar).


to and swim in the pool at the bottom of Juwuk Manis, West Bali's pretty twin waterfalls. This waterfall is just off the road to Medewi.
