Just make yourself at home. Taruna Boutique Homestay manages to encapsulate the feeling of a "homestay" as compared with a resort. It is set around a lovely pool and a pretty tropical garden, with sublime views towards Pemuteran’s very Mediterranean-looking mountains. At Taruna, there’s even an old style (as in antique-style) kitchen where you can try your hand at cooking Balinese desserts and snacks.
What's the appeal?
Taruna is a little tropical oasis with a dramatic mountain backdrop. The friendly staff and laidback atmosphere leave you feeling as if this patch of paradise really has become "home". The budget rooms are simple but comfortable and all have small verandas looking onto the tropical gardens and the superior rooms (more secluded) are spacious and attractively furnished.
The 11 rooms have all been fitted with aircon, and all have lovely outdoor stone-wall bathrooms with quirky hot showers that cascade from statues. All include coffee- and tea-making facilities and the Superior rooms also have minibars and TV. There’s a Family Suite, with interconnecting rooms, that offers three single beds and one super-king-size bed.
Taruna has a spa on the property, and offers treatments that include various massages, body scrubs and mani/pedis at reasonable prices. At the homestay there is a small platform near the pool where yoga classes (in Ashtanga and ‘Yoga Healing’) can be held. If you'd like to take a class the staff can arrange this. Breakfast is included in the homestay’s own Warung Taruna (which also serves evening meals). Transport (from the airport or another hotel) can be organised, and the staff can advise and arrange on tours and diving/snorkelling trips. Bicycles and scooters can be rented from the property. There is good Wi-Fi throughout the property.
Taruna is located at the eastern edge of Pemuteran but within walking distance of most of the eateries, and seven minute’s walk from the beach. Be sure to get up early one morning (before the heat) to enjoy the short trek to Buki Kursi – Chair Hill. Turn right out of the property and take the first lane to the right, then continue steadily uphill until (after about 30 minutes) you arrive at the temple Bukit Kursi. The views are unforgettable.
