Yuda Menjangan is a very pleasant homestay – a quiet budget accommodation option in an area that's dominated by expensive dive resorts. While it is too far to walk to any beach from here, the jetty where diving and snorkelling trips start is a short drive away, as is West Bali National Park.

What's the appeal?

 

The Menjangan area is home to West Bali National Park and also Menjangan Island, which is considered by many to be the best dive and snorkelling site around Bali. It's a fantastic destination for travellers who're wanting to explore and experience Bali's wilder side, but in the past it was dominated by expensive dive resorts. A few basic homestays have opened up in recent years, making the area more accessible to budget travellers, and Yuda's Menjangan Homestay is definitely one of the loveliest.  Its fairly rickety entrance – you'll need to walk between enormous pylons and the back ends of some family compounds – does no justice to the homestay, which is situated a short walk off the main road. Rooms are simple and comfortable, and are surrounded by a lovely garden.

Rooms

 

The four rooms at Yuda Menjangan Homestay are very simple, but comfortable and very well kept. The walls inside are lined with woven bamboo, lending a natural feel to the space, and there is art on the walls and handwoven fabric as detail on the bed. Each room has its own rudimentary bathroom, which is covered but outdoors. The rooms open onto a veranda, where breakfast is served.

Facilities

 

Yuda Menjangan Homestay is simple, but comfortable. The garden is lovely and quite unexpected, and there is a table and seating which would make a good place for an evening drink. ​There is a very basic kitchen, and travellers wanting to prepare their own meals are welcome to use this space. Yuda can arrange transport as well as snorkelling and diving trips, and activities in the national park.

Location

 

The homestay is located a short walk away from the main road in the Banyuwdang area. It's a five-minute drive to White Sandy Beach (where there is a very small beach), and a 15-minute drive to the jetty from where dive and snorkel trips to Menjangan Island depart.
